HFS collects reusable furniture & electrical appliances throughout Hastings Borough and Rother District so that local households with low incomes can furnish and equip their homes at affordable rates.
Free furniture & electrical collection service in Hastings & Rother:
Our collection service includes Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill, Cooden, Battle, Robertsbridge, Rye, Peasmarsh, Northiam, Westfield, Fairlight, Pevensey and all the villages in Rother District.
We Always Need:
- Bedroom furniture: beds, mattresses, bunk-beds, bed frames and bases, wardrobes, chests of drawers, bedside cabinets,shelves and bookcases
- Living room furniture: sofas, chairs, suites, sofa-beds, futons, coffee tables
- Dining room furniture: sets of tables and chairs
- Kitchen appliances: electric cookers, fridges, fridge-freezers, washing machines, microwaves
- Other electricals such as TVs, DVD players, stereos
How the service works:
We will collect reusable donations of furniture and electrical appliances totally free of charge. We collect from inside your home so you don't have to move the items & they stay in good condition - furniture and electricals get damaged if left outside.
We arrange a mutually convenient time-slot when our volunteers will call (usually Morning from 10.00 - 12.30 or Afternoon from 2.00-4.30). We cover most of our collection area every week but spaces can get booked up so do please book ahead if you can.
When they visit our team will check the items to make sure we can reuse them. We can usually take away reusable items there and then.
There are some things we cannot use due to health and safety legislation: for example, beds and sofas must have fire regulation labels (examples of the labels).
Naturally, all items must be in a good reusable condition and good working order.
