HFS is a registered training centre in its own right and works with Sussex Coast College Hastings and a range of community partners to offer a range of training opportunities for people with low incomes.

Our FREE training for over 19s starts with short taster days. If you enjoy your taster you can carry on learning with us and complete a short course, gaining certificates or a qualification.

TASTER WEEK January 2012

Taster week is a chance to try out some of our training options, meet our tutors and see if you would like to take a longer course. It's free and there's no oblligation to sign up for lots of sessions - just give something different a go for the New Year! The courses include making your own wall art by painting on canvas, knob-painting, Fire Safety, First Aid and Repair Don't Despair click here to download the programme!

CV BOOSTER

The CV booster is a set of courses and certificates relevant to any workplace, including:

  • Emergency First Aid
  • Health & Safety at work
  • Fire Safety
  • One to one help to refresh your CV

FUNKY FURNITURE

Hastings Furniture Service has training workshops at both Hastings and Bexhill stores which offer NCFE qualifications in Creative Craft. Have a look at our Art Gallery to see what people have been creating!

From a taster day painting fresh knobs for your drawers you can progress to sessions experimenting with paint effects, decorate a canvas for your wall. From this it's possible to progress to complete a Level One qualification by completing work on a whole item of furniture. Learners can take their final piece home for a nominal charge.

Available at Hastings or Bexhill.

 

REPAIR DON'T DESPAIR

The taster day covers some everyday repairs that are commonly needed. From this you may choose to progress to beginners restoration and learn how to make and repair furniture joints. Further sessions and a final project, restoring an item of furniture that has been donated to the store, complete the Level One qualification.

TRAINING FOR 16-18s: L-earn

HFS is working with other local social enterprises to provide "earn while you learn" opportunities for young adults in Hastings and Rother. These are work-based, practical training options for 16-18s that help you prepare for apprenticeships, College or work. There is more information and a video about L-earn here.
